Yogi Named West Rookie of the Month

In news that would have come as a complete shock a little over a month ago, Mavericks point guard Yogi Ferrell has been named Western Conference Rookie of the Month for February. Ferrell was first signed to a 10-day contract on Jan. 28 and has since been signed for the rest of this season and next. In 11 February games he averaged 12.0 points and 4.7 assists and made 21 threes, leading all West rookies in those categories. The highlight of the month came when he scored 32 in a win at Portland on Feb. 3. Yogi is the first Maverick to win Rookie of the Month since Devin Harris in November 2004. Other Mavs winners of the award are Jason Kidd, Jay Vincent and Mark Aguirre. Dario Saric of the Sixers was the winner for the East.

Of Note

  • Wesley Matthews will not play Wednesday due to a hip injury.
  • After previously never scoring 25 points or more in a game in his career, Seth Curry has bested that total twice in the last three games with 31 against Minnesota and 29 against Miami.
  • Nerlens Noel is a +16 in the 55 minutes he has played in his two games as a Mav.
  • Dirk now stands 59 points shy of 30,000 for his career. After Wednesday the Mavs return home for five straight games, so expect him to reach the mark sometime during that homestand.
  • The Mavericks have lost 6 in a row to the Hawks with their last win coming on opening night of the 13-14 season.
