Monta Ellis has opted out of the final year of his contract according to ESPN.com and will become a free agent. Ellis, who would have made $8.3 million next year, is not expected to be brought by the Mavericks according to ESPN. The Mavs will now plenty of cap room and will probably look to replace Monta with a two guard who can both shoot and defend. Possibilities include Danny Green and Wesley Matthews.
All and all I enjoyed Monta's two years in Dallas, although the last half-season was rough. That being said it was time to move on.
