The two all-time legends in the game had very different nights. Dirk had 25 points and shot 10-13 from the floor while Kobe had 15 points and was only 3-15 from the field.

- Chandler Parsons made his season debut after off-season knee surgery, playing 12 first half minutes with 2 points, 3 rebounds and 3 assists.
- With the win Rick Carlisle became the winningest coach in Mavericks history with 340 wins, passing Don Nelson.
- The Mavs started the game on a 15-0 run before the Lakers scored their first points more than 4 1/2 minutes into the game.
- The Mavericks have now won eight straight games against the Lakers.
- Dallas native Julius Randle had a strong game for the Lakers with 22 points and 15 rebounds.
