Of Note
- The Mavericks come in riding high with a four game winning streak including a pounding of the defending champion Warriors in their last game. Meanwhile the Heat come in losers of their last two games.
- Before the Mavs win in Miami last January their last previous win over the Heat had come in Game 6 of the 2011 Finals.
- Deron Williams remains listed as questionable with the hamstring strain that has caused him to miss the last four games.
- Rookie Justice Winslow is questionable for Miami with an ankle injury.
- Chandler Parsons has recorded at least four assists in the last four games and five out of the last six games.
- This is the fifth time in six years the Mavs have played on New Year's Day, all on the road. They lost in Milwaukee in 2011 and Minnesota in 2012, and won in Washington in 2013 and 2014.
