Stat of the Game

Additional Notes
Dirk went to the locker room in the first minute of the game with a hurt left shoulder, but returned minutes later and showed no ill effects scoring 18 points on 7-13 shooting.
Pelicans All-Star Anthony Davis wasn't so fortunate as he hurt his left shoulder in the 2nd quarter and did not return to the game.
The Mavs swept the season series over New Orleans 4-0.
After trailing 27-20 at the end of the first quarter, Dallas outscored the Pelicans 88-62 in the remaining three periods.

Quote of Note
“The shoulder popped a little bit. I’ve had it ever since Karl Malone hacked me in ’99. The shoulder sometimes just comes in and out a little bit, but it tingles for just a couple of minutes. I walked it off in the tunnel and was able to finish the game. “But it happened a good 20 times already over my career, so it’s going to keep happening here and there.”
Dirk on his injury scare.

Mavs Stand Pat at Trade Deadline

To the surprise of no one the Mavericks did not make a trade before today's 2:00 deadline, and will keep their roster intact as they make their push to the playoffs. The sparse number of available impact players and the Mavs lack of a first round pick in the upcoming draft worked against Dallas in what was a quiet deadline throughout the league.
Said General Manager Donnie Nelson, “For us, the nucleus is there to have a nice push for the second half. When you do make changes, even if it’s at the end of the roster, it takes a certain period of time to bring guys in."

Notes
The Mavericks have won a season high 5 in a row, the last 4 game by double digits. It's the first time they have recorded 4 straight double digit wins since the 10-11 season. It is also the the first time the Mavs have been at least 10 games over .500 since the end of that same championship season. Dallas suffered their only all-time loss to the Bobcats in their last trip to Charlotte on Nov. 12, 2012 by a 101-97 score in overtime. Of course one Dirk Nowitzki missed that game due to injury. This will be the last time the Mavs will face the Charlotte franchise as the Bobcats. Starting next season they will be the Charlotte Hornets, the same name of the original Charlotte franchise that moved to New Orleans, and is now known as the Pelicans.

Ranking the Mavs

Where the Mavericks fall in various sports websites weekly NBA power rankings.

ESPN: 9. "One of the surest signs this season's West is deeper than it used to be: Dallas is only up to No. 7 after a five-game win streak that has the Mavs at an even 10 games over .500. This group is a far stronger team than last season's 41-41 mess ... but you wouldn't know it looking at the standings."

NBA.com: 9. "The Mavs have won five straight, but their offense has been off the charts for a month now. Dirk Nowitzki has averaged 24.6 points with an effective field goal percentage of 56.2 percent over that stretch. Vince Carter, meanwhile, is a plus-89 over the five-game streak, which included an important win in Memphis. Dallas is now three games up on the Grizz, already holding the head-to-head tiebreaker."

Sports Illustrated: 8. "The Mavs have won a season-best five in a row, but it's worth pointing out that none of the victories came against current playoff teams. Still, Dallas is playing impressive ball, led by the effective duo of Monta Ellis and Dirk Nowitzki.

Yahoo Sports: 10. "Dirk Nowitzi's 38-point, 17-rebound game against Houston on Jan. 29 was his first 30-point, 10-rebound game of the season and 108th of career."

CBS Sports: 8. "The less I think of the Mavericks because of their defense, the better they play because of their offense."

NBC Sports: 9. " Winners of five in a row, they have moved up to a tie for the sixth seed in the deep West (tied with Phoenix). This race down the stretch for the final spots in the West will be one to watch — three games separate the six and nine seeds in the conference."

Fox Sports: 11. "This past week has been a reminder of the days when Dirk Nowitzki was a legitimate superstar. He's just two seasons removed from beating the Heat for a title, remember. Nowitzki is averaging 30.8 points on 59.7% shooting and 9.8 rebounds. If he keeps playing like this, Dallas certainly holds onto a playoff spot — even if they can’t play defense."
