Mavs Acquire Nerlens Noel From 76ers

The Mavs did not sit still at the trade deadline, as they made a big trade with Philadelphia for center Nerlens Noel. The Mavericks sent Andrew Bogut, Justin Anderson and a protected first round pick to the Sixers for the 22-year-old big man. The pick is top 18 protected in this summer's draft. If the pick falls in the top 18, which it almost certainly will, it will convert into second round picks in 2017 and 18.
Noel was the number 6 pick in the 2013 draft after one year at Kentucky. He is averaging 8.9 points and 5 rebounds in 19.4 minutes per game this year. For his career he has averaged 10.2 points and 7.6 rebounds in 28.3 minutes per game over three seasons.  He will be a restricted free agent this summer and the Sixers have a logjam at center with Joel Embiid and Jahlil Okafor. The Mavs will now be able to match any contract offer Noel receives this summer. Noel is known as a strong defender who can both protect the rim and guard the perimeter as well. Bogut is expected to be bought out his contract by the 76ers.
According to ESPN's Tim MacMahon, the Mavs will now look to buyout Deron Williams from the remainder of his contract, and make Yogi Ferrell the starting point guard for the remainder of the season.

Utah Reportedly Interested in Deron Williams

According to a report from ESPN's Tim MacMahon and Marc Stein, the Utah Jazz have expressed interest in trading for Mavericks point guard Deron Williams. Williams had his best years with the Jazz but was traded by the team in 2011. Williams can't be traded without his approval but he stills owns a home in Salt Lake City and  remains fond of Utah. The Mavs are looking at possibly trading both Williams and Andrew Bogut by Thursday's 2:00 CT trade deadline as both veterans will be free agents this summer.

Yogi Ferrell to Sign Two-Year Contract With Mavs

After a sensational first week as a Maverick, the Mavs are making sure that Yogi Ferrell sticks around not only for the rest of this year but next year as well. According to a report from The Vertical's Shams Charania, the Mavs and Ferrell have agreed on a two-year contract that he will sign Tuesday when his 10-day contract expires. Ferrell will make the minimum salary of $2008,00 for the remainder of this year and $1.3 million next year according to The Vertical's Bobby Marks.
The Mavericks are 4-0 with the rookie from Indiana starting at point guard, with Ferrell averaging 17.8 points and 5.0 assists per game. He scored 32 points and made 9 threes in last night's win in Portland. Ferrell was playing in the D-League when the Mavs signed him, after he appeared in 10 games earlier this year for the Nets. He went undrafted after a standout career with the Hoosiers.

Wesley Matthews to be in 3-Point Contest

Despite not having a player selected to the All-Star Game the Mavericks will still have representation during All-Star Weekend. Wesley Matthews was named as one of eight participants in this year's 3-Point Contest on All-Star Saturday Night. Matthews finished fourth in the 2015 contest when he played for the Blazers. He is the first Mav participant in the event since Dirk in 2008. Matthews has made 129 threes (10th in the league) in 339 attempts this season, good for a percentage of 38.1%. Besides Wes, this year's field includes defending champion Klay Thompson, Kyrie Irving, Kyle Lowry, Kemba Walker, Eric Gordon, C.J. McCollum and Nick Young.
