Mavs to Sign Jeff Withey

According to Shams Charania of The Vertical, the Mavs have agreed to sign veteran center Jeff Withey to a one year deal. Withey is a defensive-minded 7 footer who has four years of NBA experience, spending the last two seasons in Utah after playing for New Orleans for his two years. Withey has career averages 3.3 points, 2.6 rebounds and 0.8 blocks in 10.3 minutes per game. He gives the Mavs more depth at center behind Nerlens Noel, who is expected to re-sign at some point. Withey, 27, played four seasons at Kansas where he was a third team all-american as a senior in 2013. He was the 39th pick of that year's draft by Portland but was soon traded to the Pelicans.

The 10 Must See Games for the 2017-18 Mavs

With the full 2017-18 schedule being released today for both the Mavericks and the entire league, here are my picks for the 10 games you must not miss on the Mavs schedule for this upcoming season. To the see the entire schedule click here.

Oct. 18 vs. Atlanta: Dennis Smith Jr. will be making his Mavs debut as Dallas opens at home for the first time since 2013, where they also met the Hawks. This figures to be maybe the easiest game on the entire schedule as the Hawks are undergoing a major rebuild.

Oct. 21 at Houston: In the first road game of the season, the Mavs will get a look at the Rockets newest addition, Chris Paul, who adds another new dimension to this Lone Star rivalry.

Oct. 23 vs. Golden State: The defending champs make an early visit to the AAC as they the Curry brothers will battle it out. The Warriors also have this Durant guy who's pretty good who you might want to check out.

Nov. 11 vs. Cleveland: LeBron and the three time defending East champs will make their annual Dallas appearance. The main question will be, is Kyrie Irving still a Cav then?

Dec. 16 at San Antonio: Amazingly this the final matchup of the year between the Mavericks and their arch-rival. All four games will happen between Nov. 14 and this game.

Dec. 31 at Oklahoma City: The Mavs will spend New Year's Eve facing off against the defending MVP, Russell Westbrook, and his new sidekick Paul George.

Jan. 7 vs. New York: Revenge could be on the menu as Smith will face the team that passed on him with the pick prior to the Mavs. They instead took fellow point guard Frank Ntilikina out of France. Alas, the man who made the pick for the Knicks, Phil Jackson, no longer works for the franchise.

Jan. 13 vs. LA Lakers: Another DSJ showdown, as Smith and Lonzo Ball face off in a Saturday matinee. The Mavs currently are on a 14 game winning streak against the Lakers, including a 49 point drubbing last season.

Apr. 8 at Philadelphia: The Mavericks final road game of the year is a Sunday afternoon tilt against the up and coming 76ers led by #1 overall Markelle Fultz, last year's #1 pick Ben Simmons and Joel "The Process" Embiid.

Apr. 10 vs. Phoenix: The Mavs close out the regular season at home, for what could be, but is hopefully not the last game of Dirk's career. Who knows, a playoff spot could be on the line as well.
